Exhibition - The Glass Room Misinformation Edition

06 Jul 2026 to 31 Jul 2026Westmeath Mullingar
Event
Mullingar Library is exhibiting ‘The Glass Room Misinformation Edition’ in our Exhibition Space from July 6th to 31st . It is available to view during library opening hours. Part of Westmeath Libraries' Skills for Life programme of events.

We hear a lot about misinformation, disinformation and conspiracy theories these days. But what makes a piece of information reliable or unreliable? Is something “misinformation” if it simply presents an opinion we don’t agree with? And what role do new technologies and social media platforms play in how misinformation spreads and the impact it has on our culture, politics and society?

This exhibition explores what misinformation is, why it’s shared and how it spreads. Find out how we, the individual users, take part through our many clicks, likes and shares. Learn about the business models, design practices and habits that create an environment where misinformation can spread or go viral. And understand how misinformation becomes normalised, and how the decisions made by the gatekeepers of technologies can influence our behaviours and opinions.

The Misinformation Edition has been developed by Tactical Tech in collaboration with a number of European partners: IFLA, FERS, Save the Children Italia, Save the Children Romania, Malta Chamber of Scientists and Science Gallery Dublin, as well as being co-funded by the European Union.

Game of 25, once Ireland's national card game (Heritage Week)

19 Aug 2026 - 2:00 PM to 4:00 PMKildare Celbridge
Event

Join us for an introduction to Ireland's national card game: '25', a game which has been passed down through generations of families and local communities in the oral tradition for over half a millennia.  The game can be traced back to 1650 when it was then known as ‘Maw’ (‘trump’) or ‘Five Cards’.  Long Winter nights spent in learning and laughter with friends, family and neighbours, 25 wasn't just a card game - it was a national past-time played in houses and community halls. Attendees will be introduced to the game via initial demonstration and then by sitting in to learn it by playing themselves. Each table of 6 will be hosted by an experienced 25 card game player. '25' is a game based on taking tricks. Come learn the fundamentals of the game: what are best cards in the pack, what is a ‘dealing’ trick, when is it appropriate to ‘rob’ and maybe, just maybe, when to renege!

This event seeks to both introduce '25' to new players and to revive it for those who may have played previously and forgotten through lack of opportunity to practice. '25' is a living part of rural Ireland's history. Immigrants brought the game with them to Canada - come hear how they changed it. Still today, '25' is played in Irish centres abroad. A game of 5 cards, played individually but players will quickly learn when to play for the table! Some were raised on songs and stories and others on '25'!
