If you have ever wanted to knit yourself an Aran sweater you'll learn what's involved and how to get started in this taster session. It's a wonderful traditional craft that we are inn danger of losing as we can buy ready made garments in any number of shops for a fraction of the cost. But there's nothing like the sense of satisfaction from making your own sweater from good quality wool sourced here in Ireland.  Knitting is good for the soul, it's meditative, and calming, and learning the different patterns and stitches is actually good for the brain. You'll have a great send of achievement if you manage to tackle a project like this plus a unique piece of clothing that will last you for years. 

Join Mary Burnham for our taster session where you'll have a go at knitting the humble scarf using the blackberry stitch, moss stitch, plus a 9 stitch cable.

All you'll need to bring is a set of needles (no particular size), one cable needle, and a ball of Aran wool. Also, bring any Aran patterns you may have to discuss how to progress with your knitting project, and a notebook which will come in very handy.

We'll talk about how to tackle your project and give advice on materials to use and the various outlets in Dublin and online.

Join Spain Hughes-Fagan from Inventors Club for an engaging, hands-on workshop exploring AI, Machine Learning, ChatGPT, and other chatbots. Together, we’ll break down what machine learning is, explore real-world AI applications, and discuss both the benefits and potential risks of this rapidly evolving technology.  We will test our ability to spot AI generated content. 

You’ll also learn practical tips and tricks to craft more effective prompts and get better results from AI tools. 

This fun workshop is open to everyone - no prior experience required. Bringing a laptop is helpful, but not essential.

Teddy Bears Picnic Doodle, for ages 5 yrs +

Join us in Dalkey Library for our "Teddy Bears Picnic Monster Doodle" 

Collaborate on a giant paper playground, grab your favourite colours and make your mark alongside fellow teddy bears on our oversize paper.

This is a Summer Stars activity where children are encouraged to read all through the Summer months while visiting their local library regularly.

Join Red King Chess in dlr LexIcon for workshops this July.

(Suitable for ages 7-14 yrs)

Workshop One: Pawn to King 

Tues 21 July, 2.30-5.30pm 

In this first session we will learn the rules for all the pieces on the chess board. By the end of Day One you will know how to play with the Pawn, Rook, Knight, Bishop, King and Queen. 

Workshop Two: Checkmate!

Wed 22 July, 2.30-5.30pm 

During this session we will study check and checkmate, some tricks and tactics, and we will learn how to use the Chess Clock! By the end of Day Two you will be able to play a full game of chess. 

*Please note that participants must be available to attend both workshops: Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 July, 2.30-5.30pm

Registration for the Chess Tournament is separate, and is only suitable for people who have attended the first two sessions or those who already know how to play a full game of chess. 

Practice speaking Irish in a relaxed art filled workshop.

This workshop focuses on some fun ways to use watercolour. Through Irish we will learn some simple techniques which can be used to make an abstract piece or paint some simple flowers.

This adult event is aimed at learners of Irish at all levels. Through some fun facilitated art activities as well as some free speaking time all participants are encouraged to learn and share Irish together. Most importantly the focus of the workshop is speaking practice. Helpful conversation phrases will be on the tables.

No art background necessary.
